#ThriftyThursday – it’s still cold out!

We can’t seem to break the cold snap here in Omaha.  The high today is supposed to be 14 degrees! But that’s alright, our Goodwill stores have your winter weather gear at a great price!  With a chance for snow and a low of zero degrees this weekend, you’ll want to make sure you have the proper gear to keep bundled and warm as you brave the Omaha tundra.

Let’s start with coats.  This faux-fur cropped coat by Esley will keep you warm and stylish for a night out.  And it’s only $7.99!  Pair it with a warm sweater and some fur-lined leggings to complete your cold-weather ensemble.

This long-length overcoat by Nine West is the perfect color to cheer up your winter blues.  At only $14.99, you can find some cute pants and stay warm while going to work.

This G.E.T. Anorak jacket is a perfect transition piece.  Its lining will keep you warm, but the material makes it a perfect spring coat as well.  This coat was found new with tags for only $9.99 at Goodwill.

If your style is more vintage, look no further than this deep orange wool  Billycoat.  The color will make a statement while keeping you warm in the coldest temps.  This is a piece that can stay in your wardrobe for years, and it’s only $14.99.

Sometimes it’s so cold that coats aren’t enough.  At Goodwill you can stock up on gloves, scarves, and boots to keep that chill away even longer.

#ThriftyThursday – Elegant Dishware

At Goodwill, we never know what might be donated on any given day.  That is what makes working for and shopping at our stores so much fun! This week, Thrifty Thursday is here to bring a pretty awesome find from our Blair store.

This 39-piece serving set is from the yellow gold collection made by Cotillion by Japan.  These dishes are antiques, and full set can be hard to find!

While not in mint condition, these dishes would look great in a dining room hutch.  However, at thrift store prices, you can afford to purchase these as your everyday dishes.  The cute cups and saucers are sure to add a touch of elegance to your meals at home.

This set, which includes 6 dinner plates, a vegetable bowl, and a serving platter, are currently up for bid, along with hundreds of other awesome finds, on Shop Goodwill  –  http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/39-pc-Cotillion-by-Japan-Yellow-Rose-Dish-Set-15603456.html.

Happy hunting!

Dressing Up Your Mantel With Goodwill

Editor’s note: Say hello to Caitlin! She’s a personal style blogger at Re-Mix-Her.com who also loves Goodwill! Caitlin will be sharing some of her favorite Goodwill finds with you each month here at the GoodTimes Blog.

A year ago I moved here to Omaha and moved into my first apartment. Considering most of my possessions were from my college dorm room and my childhood bedroom, I had a lot of work to do. My roommate and I scoured the local Omaha Goodwills for items we could use throughout our apartment.

The biggest lesson we learned while decorating was not to take items at face value. Many items can be repaired, painted over, or just turned around so the best side shows. Many of the items you see above on our mantel were from local Goodwills, and many of these items took a little TLC to work in our apartment. (We used a lot of gold spray paint.)

So the next time you’re in need of a bowl, a painting — something to spruce up your living space — head to Goodwill and remember not to take items at face value. And if you find something you love, tweet a pic of it to me (@ReMixHer)!

#ThriftyThursday – Where you never know what you might find!

Shopping at Goodwill can be compared to looking for hidden treasure.  Many times you can find some gold.  Today, gold came in the form of some amazing vintage Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Stuart Weitzman is best known for handcrafting shoes that are worn to award shows, particularly the Oscars.  The combination of silver, illusion material, and rhinestones in these shoes is Academy Award worthy.

These shoes were found at the Benson Park Plaza store, and marked at only $9.99.

Valentine’s Day can be a stressful time of year.  Whether you are in a new relationship, single, or celebrating decades of love, gifts, flowers and dinner add up in time, money, and energy.  Over the years, I’ve come to see that Valentine’s Day isn’t about spending money or elaborate celebrations.  It’s about spending time with all your loved ones, including friends and family, and making the day brighter for all the special people in your life.

Goodwill has plenty of opportunities to make Valentine’s Day unique and memorable.  From one-of-a-kind gifts, to great (and affordable!) fashion for the day, our retail stores are a one-stop shop for the 14th.
