APRIL 1 – APRIL 30
The 33rd Annual Good Turn for Goodwill Girl Scout Donation Drive is a fun community service project open to all the Scouts of the Greater Omaha area. This event allows the Scouts to give back to their community by collecting material donations for Goodwill stores in their area.
This year Goodwill is trying a new system for our Good Turn drive. After looking at the previous year’s survey results, we decided to extend the drive dates so this way troops have more flexibility on when they can participate. All troops will still receive participation patches, a thank you prize and be eligible for grand prizes. See more details below!
Register Online- Register as a troop or an individual any time between February 22 and March 25. Make sure to include your current troop number, as that is how your troop gets credit. Fill in the details at the link below.
Bags– This year we have decided that we would like to be more environmentally conscious and will not be providing Goodwill bags. You may use any bags or boxes of your own choice. When donating, you do not have to use bags or boxes. You can simply drop off items at the Goodwill donation door.
How we track donations- It is VERY IMPORTANT that you tell the donation attendant at the Goodwill store that you are participating in the Good Turn Drive and provide them with your troop number. This is how we know your troop donated and how you will receive patches and prizes. If the attendant doesn’t know your troop number, we won’t know who donated it! If someone else drops items off – MAKE SURE THEY KNOW YOUR TROOP # AND LEAVE IT WITH THE ATTENDANT.
When– This donation drive will now run from April 1 to April 30 of each year, so each troop can determine when they would like to collect donations. All donations can be returned back to any Goodwill location during the hours of 9am – 8pm. Prizes and patches will be mailed out the 1st week of May.
Recognition & Prizes – Following the completion of this service project, each registered participating Girl Scout will receive a patch and thank you prizes. There will be three raffle drawings at the end of the year for an Amazing Pizza Machine pizza party or a Sonic Ice-cream gift card for your whole troop. In order to be entered into the grand prize raffle, you must donate at least one time.
How you help – Donated materials and gently used items are recycled and sold in stores to fund Goodwill programs that help people in our community find jobs. By recycling responsibly, you are helping fellow community members and the environment!
Thank you for your interest in the Good Turn for Goodwill Scout Donation Drive!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
I don’t live in the Omaha area, can I still participate?
Yes, but the items collected must be donated to a store within our territory (Omaha, Council Bluffs, Gretna, Fremont, Blair). To see the stores available to drop off donations, please visit www.goodwillomaha.org/locations.
Do I register as a troop or individual?
Please register as one or the other – not both. If you are participating as a troop, we need to know how many Scouts are in your troop so we order the correct number of patches. If you register as an individual, then only one patch is counted for ordering.
Can I participate if my troop doesn’t want to but I do?
Yes! Any Scout can participate. Register online as an individual and list your name and address.
Does my troop have to drop of their donations as a troop or can my Scouts come independently at different times? Scouts can drop off the donations as one troop, individually or in small groups with their parents. Please be sure to have your troop number to give to the door attendant. If your troop information is not given to the attendant, it may not get counted toward your troop.
Can my Girl Scouts drop off donations at different Goodwill retail stores?
You can return donations to any Goodwill retail store during this event (excluding Attended Donation Trailer Sites). Please see www.goodwillomaha.org/shop to find our locations.
How many volunteers can I have helping my troop?
You can have as many volunteers help out as you want. REMEMBER – if you have individuals dropping off donations – be sure to leave your troop number with the door attendant so it gets counted towards your troop!
How many donations do we have to collect?
Girl Scouts may collect as many as they would like. Some troops clean out their own homes and bring their personal donations to Goodwill – this is completely fine! Of course, we encourage each troop to be as active as possible! The more donations we receive, the more people Goodwill can help.
When do we begin collecting donations? You may pick items up whenever it is most convenient for you. All donations can be returned back to any Goodwill location from April 1 to April 30th during store hours, 9am – 8pm.
What if a household donates a large item we are unable to transport?
You DO NOT have to take any donation that is too big. Remind the household that they may take these items directly to Goodwill location. You may also leave them with your troop number to return with their large furniture so your troop gets the credit.
