Garry Kern, a caseworker for Goodwill’s Partnership program, was featured in a story in today’s Omaha World-Herald about the difficulties north Omaha youth are facing in trying to get jobs and stay out of trouble. Last year’s Summer Youth Program helped keep more than 500 area youth employed and off the streets, but there is no corresponding federal funding for the summer of 2010. World-Herald reporter Cindy Gonzalez spoke with Kern, several youth who are participants in the Partnership program, some former participants in the Summer Youth Program, and several community leaders about these challenges.
