The nonprofit will host its fall career fair, as well as sponsor the NDEAM Career in Council Bluffs.
OMAHA, Neb., Sept. 23, 2019 — Goodwill Industries, Inc., Serving Eastern Nebraska and Southwest Iowa, announces the nonprofit’s participation in two career fairs next month: one at its corporate headquarters in Omaha and another, which will offer an exclusive interview hour for people with disabilities, in Council Bluffs.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Goodwill’s Find Your Future Career Fair will bring approximately 40 employers, including Cox Communications, Hy-Vee, First National Bank of Omaha and Caesars Entertainment to Goodwill Omaha’s headquarters at 4805 N. 72nd St. in Omaha. Doors will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“This will be our second big career fair this year,” said Regina Bell, Employment Solutions program manager, at Goodwill Industries in Omaha. “We have a great roster of employers lined up, and I encourage job seekers to come dressed to impress and bring their resumes — many of these employers conduct on-the-spot interviews. We typically have a good amount of traffic at these events, and we put a lot of effort into making our career fairs a good experience for everyone.”
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which raises awareness about employment issues that people with disabilities often encounter while celebrating the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year, Goodwill Omaha is a sponsor of the NDEAM Career Fair, which will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 at the Omni Centre Business Park, 300 W. Broadway, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Job seekers with disabilities will be able to enter the career fair at 10 a.m., giving them an extra hour to meet employers. Doors open to the general public at 11 a.m., and the career fair will run until 2 p.m.
Bell’s team will also attend the NDEAM Career Fair, as will leaders of Goodwill’s AbilityOne program, an employment program that provides training and part-time job opportunities at federal properties for individuals with disabilities and gives them the chance to experience positive, supportive work environments.
“AbilityOne helps place people with disabilities in, and the benefits they experience as a result are wonderful,” said Jennifer Montag, senior project manager for Goodwill Omaha’s AbilityOne program. “To hear these employees talk about how much they love their jobs and the ways their lives have improved because of their jobs is amazing. It makes my work very fulfilling.”
The NDEAM Career Fair is a joint effort by Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, IowaWORKS, Iowa Western Community College, Goodwill Industries and Connections Area Agency on Aging.
